Peggy and Olaf Wedding

Vintage Villas weddings are always something to look forward to.   And this was no exception.  A beautiful, fun couple;  wonderful friends and family; and other great vendors to work with.  Besides the very professional Vintage Villas staff, I have the pleasure to work with Wendy Pringle, Event Coordinator/ Owner at Life Styled Events and Anthony Conforti, lead DJ at Green Belt DJ.  Peggy and Olaf were fantastic.  And we had a lot of fun kidding Olaf about the fact that he had forgotten his shoes so he wore slippers for some of the pre wedding photos!  And the setup and Persian desserts were incredible (I made many passes by the dessert table during the night).

There are so many beautiful mini-locations to shoot from at Vintage Villas and we took full advantage of them.  And I loved the dog shots – I am a die hard dog lover and have a Yorkie named Petey at home.  With my son Michael’s assistance, we captured several beautiful sunset images.  I use flash through a white umbrella for these as it provides beautiful soft light and I can control the shadows on the bride and groom.  The trick is to expose for the background setting sun  and then use the flash through the umbrella to light the subject just the right amount.  We also took a number of “mood” shots in the bridal chambers.  The sheer white curtains there make for perfect mood shots.  For these, we don’t use any flash, we expose so the subject is mostly dark, but there is still detail along the edges.  These bridal shots are nothing short of “WOW”!!

Leigh and Raul

Leigh and my daughter Ashlee are best friends.  I was honored when Leigh asked me to be her photographer.  And this was a great chance for me to get to know Raul better.  One of my goals is to make all my sessions fun for the grooms.  Another goal when we are shooting in Texas is to keep cool.  I think we did pretty well even though the temperature was near 100.  Check with Raul on the fun coefficient, but I can definitely say I had a great time with Raul.

We planned the engagement shoot to start on Annie and South 1st Street.  There are some wonderful nooks and crannies right on the Northwest corner of those two streets.  We were also able to use the sun to do some nice backlit pictures with the sun from behind lighting up the hair.  As we photographers say, this creates “separation” from the backgronud so the subject does not just merge into the background of the image).

From here we went to the Long Center and a change of clothes and we worked our way over toward Butler Park.  These locations offer beautiful Austin skyline shots including the shots with the dogs.  As with all session, I encourage bringing props, pets, or whatever is meaningful.  That makes for a much more fun and interesting session.

We finished the session at the Lamar walking bridge and the City of Austin Power Plant with it’s “Art Deco, Gotham City” look.

Terese and Ryan

Terese and Ryan live in Houston, but will be getting married in Austin at Villa Antonia in July 2013.   We met for the first time just before our shoot at the Hyatt Regency to get to know each other better, discuss their wedding plans and discuss the engagement shoot.  We managed to work around traffic as President Obama was visiting Austin at the exact same time while we were shooting on the other side of Lady Bird Lake.

The first thing in any shoot is to get everyone relaxed and having fun.  This can be an extra challenge when you are meeting for the first time for the shoot.  In this case, we connected right away, had a great time and even managed to stay reasonably cool for a summer shoot in Austin.  Beautiful couple and beautiful images!  I can’t wait to shoot Terese and Ryan’s wedding next year.  Stay tuned.

Stephanie and Gabriel Wedding

Addison, with Lauren assisting, shot this beautiful wedding in Charleston, South Carolina for Patrick Motola Photography.  I shot Gabriel’s sisters wedding (Laura Samudio) a couple of years ago and just fell in love with the Samudio family.  Gabriel and Laura’s mother, Rose, asked me to shoot Stephanie and Gabriel’s wedding, but unfortunately, I was booked for that date.   I do offer my client’s the opportunity to still book a Patrick Motola photography wedding with Addison as the primary shooter.  Addison is one of the very few photographers I would trust to shoot a wedding for me.  Not only does she have extraordinary photography skills, but she is great with people (and kids in particular).  So the McCarthy’s and Samudio’s agreed to book Patrick Motola Photography with Addison doing the shooting.

So Addison and Lauren headed off to Charleston on a Thursday, got the lay of the land there along with some shots of the rehearsal and then spent a long, wonderful Saturday with Stephanie, Gabriel, the bridal party and of course the McCarthy and Samudio families.  Photography took a high priority with Stephanie and Gabriel and you can see that in the time  they took to go out with the bridal party after the ceremony to shoot amongst the various backdrops of Charleston.  Gabriel is an Army Ranger, so the wedding included full military dress and tradition.  Wow, was I jealous!  My father served 26 years in Special Forces and I would love to shoot a military dress wedding.

The final touch after having Addison and Lauren capture these beautiful images is Patrick Motola Photography postprocessing.  We retouch every image and then I select about 50, make copies of them, and apply creative fine art effects ranging from selective color to various forms of black and white to antique textures.  The result is the capture of an incredible day  that Stephanie and Gabriel can cherish for a lifetime.  Thank you Rose, McCarthy’s, Samudios, Stephanie and Gabriel for letting Addison, Laure and I be a part of this beautiful wedding!
