Olivia Phifer Bridal

Wow!  What a fun bridal session.  Olivia and her parents (Bill and Janis) and I have enjoyed working together so much on Olivia’s photography.  The bridal session was another opportunity to get together and create beautiful images.  And we had the perfect backdrop, Villa Antonia in Jonestown, Texas.  The lighting inside and around the villa is exceptional.  So many great locations and niches to shoot in.

After I had posted Olivia’s bridal images (where Neil couldn’t see them of course), Olivia came to me and asked about some things we might do as gifts.  She wanted to do a book of the bridal images for her parents.  We were able to work with her budget and produce both a beautiful album and 3 accordian books.  So this post is a bit different in that I am showing both the accordian book layout and the album design rather than a set of selected individual images.

First, the accordian books.  These are soooo cool, sweet, awesome, whatever you want to call them.  These books are wallet sized with various covers (my favorite is the red alligator leather).  The covers are magnetized to hold the book closed.  When opened, they are, well, an accordian of images on both sides.  I love having engagement images on one side (you can go here to see Olivia and Neil’s full engagement shoot post) and bridals on the other as we can have these books ready at the wedding to give as favors to the bridal party, grandparents, parents, etc.  See Olivia’s accordian book below.

Next, the bridal album.  Couples have the option to include engagement and bridal images in their primary album, have seperate engagement and bridal albums, or a combination of both.  In addition, our sign yearbook style guest book serves as an engagement album of sorts having engagement images on one page and a page for signing on the opposite page.  As with all our albums, we started with the images Olivia selected, produced the design as a PDF file, had Olivia review it, made a few minor changes, gained final approval and submitted it for production.  The result is an incredibly special book that I know Bill and Janis will love and that will be a family treasure for a long time.

Ashlee & Collin Engagement

This engagement shoot was a bit unusual for me…  Ashlee is my daughter!!  She will be getting married to Collin December 3rd.  I can’t wait!  And NO, I am not shooting her wedding.  I will happily be playing the “Dad” role.  I have always joked with Ashlee over the years that I wanted to go to the “Daddy Daughter Dinner Dance”.  Well, December 3rd is going to be my chance!

Ashlee’s engagement images are actually from two sessions.  We did a short session on South Congress to get some images for her save the date card.  The full engagement shoot was done behind the Four Seasons, Butler Park next to the Long Center and the Lamar walking bridge.

We did some shots with Ashlee and Colling walking towards the Austin skyline and back from Butler Park.  Normally, I will shoot with a wide angle to capture the entire skyline.  This time however, I used my long 70-200mm lens which “compresses” the background (in this case the city buildings like the Frost Building) and makes them seem much closer.  It is a very cool effect which I have used before when you want to “bring the background in”.

Sunita & Kelly’s Slideshow

Beautiful.  Check out Sunita and Kelly’s Wedding as well.  A note about our video slideshows.  Our slideshow package includes a web slideshow, DVD video, 3 resolutions of MP4 files for playing on your phone, tablet and computer (including 720 HD format) and an ISO file so you can burn additional DVDs on your own.  The files come on two DVDs in a beautiful leather folio.   Yet another way to capture and share your wedding day story.

Sunita & Kelly Wedding

The Vineyard in Florence, Texas was the perfect backdrop for this lovely wedding on October 7th.  My wife loves wines and I know we will be needing to make a daytrip here.  The expected rain held off a day and other than some strong winds, everything was perfect.  I was assisted by Amanda Cook, one of my very talented 2nd shooters.  The drive from Austin was about an hour and we took Highway 183 to avoid Friday afternoon traffic to Dallas for the UT / Oklahoma football game.

One unusual aspect of this wedding was a change into Indian garmets after the wedding and meal.  The families were great, the band was excellent and the staff at The Vineyard was outstanding.  As pretty much everything was outside that makes for some lighting challenges once it becomes completely dark.  Amanda and I used two lightstands as well as our on camera flashes to get plenty of light on the dance floor and reception area.  I love shooting into a light as you can see from some of the images.  It creates a “Hollywood” like effect from the flash, rim lights the subjects and coupled with other lights creates good lighting.  Since there was no ceiling to bounce the flashes off, we had to shoot them directly at the subjects and used this technique to get some great shots.
